The right to a future also depends on inclusive, quality education

We believe that education is the key to guaranteeing the right to a future the right of every child and adolescent to grow up in a world that offers equal opportunities, listens to their voices and allows everyone to build their own path with confidence.

A future made of possibilities, not obstacles.

At the heart of our mission is a commitment to inclusive education. We work every day with the educational community — schools, families, teachers and institutions — to strengthen education systems and promote learning that guarantees well-being, protection and participation for all.

  • Our work in Italy

In Italy, our work against educational poverty focuses on the most vulnerable neighbourhoods, where the risk of school exclusion is greatest.

Since 2014, with the Frequenza 200 programme, we have been working in the suburbs of six Italian cities — Rome (San Basilio), Aversa, Milan (Barona), Catania (San Cristoforo), Cagliari (Sant'Elia) and Ventimiglia — to support children and adolescents living in situations of social and economic fragility.

We also encourage education that addresses healthy relationships, respect and gender equality.

Between January and February 2025, we involved over 300 students from 26 schools across Italy to understand what they know and what they would like to know about sex and relationship education. Find out what they told us. We have also joined the Italy Needs Sex Education campaign, calling for every student to have access to scientific, inclusive and respectful knowledge to build relationships based on consent and equality. We believe that proper emotional and sexual education is a fundamental element in combating stereotypes, discrimination and gender-based violence from an early age.

With the aim of promoting participation and solidarity, we also support Global Districts, a global citizenship education project that helps young people understand how to be part of an interconnected world, recognise shared rights and responsibilities, and actively contribute to building fairer and more sustainable communities.

Alongside our projects in the field, we also carry out advocacy work to encourage a more equitable education system that is closer to the real needs of students and their families. With the initiative Ristudiamo il calendario (Let's rethink the calendar), we launched a national petition calling for a new school timetable, starting with the reorganisation of the Italian school calendar.

  • Our work around the world

Our commitment to inclusive and safe education is also present in the countries where we operate, often in contexts marked by crisis and conflict. In Syria and Lebanon, for example, we are rebuilding schools, training teachers and ensuring that children have access to quality education in safe spaces. We also promote awareness of menstrual hygiene and hygiene education campaigns in schools, which are essential for the well-being and dignity of students.

In Mozambique, Tanzania and Kenya, we promote primary and secondary education programmes, with a particular focus on girls, who are often forced to leave school due to early marriage or poverty. We offer scholarships, mentoring programmes and awareness-raising initiatives to remove cultural barriers to girls' education.

In Palestine, Gaza and the West Bank, we provide integrated educational support to children whose lives have been disrupted by conflict and occupation and who no longer have access to school. We do this through an approach that responds to educational, psychological and socio-emotional needs, creating safe spaces where learning and psychosocial support can continue.

Thanks also to the support of our international partners and the ChildFund Alliance, we work to ensure that every child, even in the most fragile contexts,  can learn, grow and actively participate in the life of their community.
