Context
The humanitarian situation in Ukraine continues to deteriorate without a ceasefire, leaving over 12 million people in need of aid. In the Kharkiv region alone, 1.6 million require assistance, mostly women and children. Many face trauma, lack access to basic WASH services, and live amid mine contamination. Since 2022, WeWorld has provided humanitarian support in Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Kyiv. In early 2025, together with its local partner Peaceful Heaven of Kharkiv (PHK), it conducted a needs assessment to strengthen protection, psychosocial, and educational support—especially for displaced women and children.
Objectives
The project’s overall aim is to ensure a rapid response to the basic needs of the most vulnerable civilians displaced or returning to conflict-affected areas in eastern Ukraine, while its specific goal is to guarantee adequate access to mental health services, protection, and humanitarian assistance for women, children, and people with special needs in the liberated areas of Kharkiv.
Activities
- Mental health and psychosocial support for women and children: using artistic and pedagogical methods, it helps children cope with trauma, supports parents and displaced families, and offers protection pathways for women affected by gender-based violence.
- Purchase and distribution of personal hygiene kits (with a focus on menstrual hygiene products): ensures that vulnerable and displaced people affected by the conflict can access essential hygiene items to maintain personal cleanliness, with special attention to menstrual hygiene and the needs of women, girls, and people with disabilities.
