WE World Stories 003: Syria

“In a place where many men died during the war, where many women are raising children alone, where many houses are still damaged and many families do not have what they need, keeping a child in school is not a passive thing.” 

This testimony is among the stories that we collected in our latest photographic booklet, which includes voices, portraits and landscapes from the Al-Safira district, in rural Aleppo, to illustrate every day's life, challenges, changes, and hopes of those who stayed despite the hardships, who came back after years of displacement, and who were born into the war and are now, together with their families and communities, rebuilding their future starting from their education. 

This booklet was produced with the support of Italy through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, with which we are committed to ensuring access to an inclusive and quality education, to safe learning spaces, to water, sanitation and hygiene services and to dignified livelihoods opportunities for the Syrian population. 

We have been working in Syria for over 15 years, alongside the population, adapting our intervention to their evolving needs. In addition to our operational presence, we also engage in raising awareness on the living conditions in the areas where we intervene.
