On October 27th, members of ChildFund Alliance in Central America participated in the 2021 Central America Donors Forum (CADF), a multi-sectoral networking and learning space to foster discussion and reflections on the socio-political context of the region and to advance philanthropy and development efforts in Central America. The CADF this year took place virtually on October 26-28 with the topic “Alliances to heal and rebuild”.

During the forum, the ChildFund Alliance presented the results of a joint exercise implemented between September and October 2021 to analyse the protection risks and needs of 61 communities in Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guatemala through WeWorld’s participatory methodology Community Protection Approach (CPA).

The first part of this process consisted in the adaptation of the CPA in Central America, specifically of the multisector questionnaire (MQ), structured group interviews of around 500 standard questions addressed at community level with key informants, representative of the socio-demographic structure of the community, and divided into different modules and sectors.

The Multisector Questionnaire is only the first step of the Community Protection Approach to support vulnerable communities in increasing their capacities to make informed decisions about their safety, to organize their resources and efforts to reduce exposure to harm, and to develop local strategies to increase protection from hindered access to safe and dignified living.

The interviews and all the field work was carried out by the Childfund Alliance (CFA) and local partners: Educo, Childfund, Children Believe, WeWorld, ADENOCH, Proyecto Miriam, FUMDEC, INSFOP, INPRHU ESTELI, Capri pueblo nuevo, Capri Somoto, Asociación de Amigos del Desarrollo y la Paz (ADP), FUNDABASE, ASUVI, Tierra nueva, Fundación educación y cooperación, ADASBA.
