The proposed action concerns 20 rural communities with high seismic risk in the Departments of Quetzaltenango and Totonicapán. The communities are placed on the geographic strip that crosses the Dry Corridor, chronically affected by drought, landslides, frost, forest fires, and medium and intense scale storms. These communities are very poor and vulnerable and they have a low ability to adapt in response to traumatic events. The action is aimed at involving the population in the management of natural disasters and in recovery and reconstruction phases. In addition, the project supports vulnerable families in increasing protection, adapting and recovering economic benefits and strengthening livelihoods against natural disasters and climate change effects.
