In Cambodia over one-third of the population lives below the official poverty line. Poverty, lack of jobs, physical violence are some of the driving factors that push citizens to migrate between countries to better opportunities because of the labor market imbalance. Many migrants are victimized at the hands of perpetrators of contemporary forms of slavery, through human trafficking, labor exploitation and forced marriage. A number of factors contribute to the exploitation linked to the inefficient enforcement of current action plans to combat human trafficking of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) and to the inappropriate use of law to defend the victims. The proposed action will target 5 provinces with the highest number of victims of human trafficking. The activities will involve victims of human trafficking and labour exploitation, particular attention will be given to the children left behind by migrant parents. Considering the strong focus of the proposed action on advocacy, monitoring and communication, each project activity will involve different target groups. at the same time guarantying a horizontal approach and, from grass root to national level (vertical approach), guarantee the democratization of society. In Cambodia over one-third of the population lives below the official poverty line.
