The Israeli assault against Gaza in July 2014 determined a huge scale of destruction, with significant damages to water and sanitation systems, devastation and displacement causing a sharp increase in the severity of humanitarian needs. The Gaza Strip is facing a challenging situation in regards to water and wastewater and approximately half a million people were directly affected by damages to water facilities. On one side, this project will address the damages of the domestic water infrastructure facilities through the installation of pipe lines, rehabilitation of wells and provision of stand-by electricity generators. The project will also provide a support to the winterization plan that has been indicated by CMWU and WASH cluster as the most urgent priority, to prevent and respond to localized floods due to the increased flood risk after the conflict. This will be through the provision of mobile dewatering pumps and power generators, cleaning wastewater facilities, supply of protection clothes and tools, and repairing of heavy machineries.
