Recent reports (CMWU, Water Report 2009) indicate that approximately half a million people do not have access to wastewater networks, and this fact puts health at high risk due to potential infections related to the use of contaminated water and poor hygienic conditions created in residential areas. The project connected 100 buildings to the wastewater network, through approximately 1,800 meters of pipeline, granting access to the wastewater network to 185 families. As with all GVC projects in the water, sanitation, and Climate Change hygiene sector, the infrastructural and management works described are coupled with awareness activities within beneficiary communities regarding conscious water consumption practices and hygiene issues.
