Cyclone Chido made landfall in Mozambique, severely affecting Cabo Delgado, Nampula, and Pemba.

The testimony of Pedro Muepetia, WeWorld Education staff from Chiure:

"My home in Pemba is detroyed and my family sought refuge in a school but I'm not in contact with them anymore. I cannot reach our other colleagues in Pemba as communications lines are down. Chiure is also devastated. We are currently trying to get in contact with the teachers and head of schools we work with to respond to the emergency.
It feels like cyclone Kenneth in 2019 all over again".

WeWorld has been active in Mozambique since 2000, with operational offices in Maputo, Tete and Pemba, in both the development and emergency response sectors.
In disaster risk management, we operate at national and local level. Since 2022, our efforts have concentrated on improving disaster preparedness, prevention, and response within communities, local authorities, and schools. Mozambique is one of the countries most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, and in response, we are working in the Maputo area.
In 2019, after Cyclones Idai and Kenneth, we acted swiftly in coordination with local civil society organisations to address urgent needs.
