In 2014 the Zero hunger crisis that hit communities near the Guatemalan Dry Corridor has also had significant repercussions in 2016 - due to climate irregularity, decrease of basic grains crops and lack of job opportunities.

The NGO Consortium proposes to continue the economic transfer activities for 2.000 extremely vulnerable beneficiary families, located in the targeted areas. The assistance will be provided during periods of increased Zero hunger insecurity (May-July) in 2017 and 2018.This opportunity will also be the way to give adding value to the municipalities - given the absence of equivalent national public policies.Municipalities will be involved, together with Ministries and Cooperation Agencies, on the promotion of social protection networks. In the nutritional field, the project will continue to provide support to health services in order to make active research in cases of acute childhood malnutrition. At the same time, updated guidelines, to be considered as complementary to national protocols, will be provided for the identification and treatment of acute malnutrition. Finally, as a third component of the project, ECHO will be required by the NGO Consortium, a mandate for advocacy activities.
